May 12-13, 2022 | Ankara, Turkey
Sudan has experienced political upheavals in the last decades. Emergence of South Sudan as an independent state after years of conflict had dramatic impacts on the political, economic and social life of Sudan. Internal conflicts, economic challenges and political representation problems affected the domestic and foreign relations of the country.
Following widespread protests, long-standing rule of Omar al Bashir came to an end and Sudan in a transition period. Emerging political structure in the country had to deal with issues of economic problems, unity of society, challenges of turbulent regional environment and global issues like climate change.
Turkey’s multi-level engagement with Sudan has continued in different periods of history of the country. Security, political and economic relations between two countries have faced challenges as well as opportunities in this historical legacy. Development and humanitarian aid, cooperation in agriculture, education and health have been other aspects of bilateral relations. Given the transition Sudan, the future of bilateral relations between Turkey and Sudan needs to be analyzed by taking into account this historical background.
The symposium aims to bring researchers, scholars, and experts together to discuss Sudan’s transition and its implications for Turkey in all sectors.
